Three people sat outside in the sunshine around a table. Two of the people have their back to the camera on the near side of the table. The student facing the camera is on the other side, wearing a denim shirt and white tee. She is smiling.

Impact

At DSPI, we strive for excellence in everything we do. As one of the highest-ranked Social Policy departments in the world, our work has an enduring impact across the globe. Our long-standing research endeavours are reflected in our publication output and policy influence.

Currently there are 48 separately funded research projects, with more than 50 research staff and an annual turnover of approximately £5 million as of the end of our financial year 24/25.

Research excellence

In the 2021 Research Excellence Framework (REF) exercise, 62% of our overall research submissions were categorised as 'world-leading' (4*). We are one of the highest scoring departments in social policy (and any subject) in the United Kingdom.
