Liina Björg Laas Sigurðardóttir
DPhil student
Liina is a DPhil candidate in Social Intervention and Policy Evaluation, funded by an Advanced Quantitative Methods scholarship from the Economic and Social Research Council (ESRC). She is supervised by Professor Frances Gardner and Professor Patty Leijten of the University of Amsterdam.
Liina's research focuses on using evidence synthesis and advanced statistical methods to understand what makes social interventions for children and families effective, and for whom. Her DPhil applies this approach to parenting programmes and the components that make them effective. Using methods such as component network meta-analysis and individual participant data meta-analysis (IPDMA), she examines which components matter, for which outcomes, for whom, and in which contexts. Alongside her DPhil, Liina is a research assistant on an update of a WHO-commissioned systematic review of parenting interventions in low- and middle-income countries.
Prior to her doctoral studies, Liina worked as a junior researcher at the Research Institute of Child Development and Education at the University of Amsterdam, where she used IPDMAs to understand who benefits most from child mental health interventions, including school-based anti-bullying programmes, parenting programmes for conduct problems, and behavioural treatments for ADHD.
Liina holds a Research Master's degree in Child Development and Education from the University of Amsterdam and a BSc in Psychology from the University of Iceland.
